Starting from February 20, Goran Visnjic will begin with the filming of the upcoming movie and series The General. The entire project is built around and focuses on the character of Croatian General Ante Gotovina, while the storyline deals with the Homeland war of the 1990s. The whole project is directed by Antun Vrdoljak, the father-in-law of the famous actor Goran Visnjic. The Hollywood star will play the main role, General Gotovina, and the filming will take place in locations all across Croatia. More than one hundred actors will join this actor for the filming which is scheduled to finish by the end of June.
There have been many rumors regarding who will play the role of the General’s first wife, and most of those speculations were related with the famous actress Penelope Cruz, mentioning her as a possible candidate. However, official sources have dismissed these claims, stating that this will not be the case. The reason why she was mentioned in the first place is probably connected with the fact that she and Goran Visnjic have the same agent. Instead of her, the role was given to a local actress who recently landed a role in a movie produced and directed by Woody Harrelson. Goran Visnjic is expected to arrive in Croatia on February 19, as soon as he finishes his current engagements in USA.
The major movie spectacle about General Ante Gotovina will be filmed by a Croatian production, and it will feature a top-notch crew of actors and film professionals who will act alongside Goran Visnjic. The actor and creator is currently working on the final scenes from the first season of NBC’s sci-fi series Timeless, where he plays the villain, Garcia Flynn. Antun Vrdoljak, the director of this film, is eagerly waiting for Goran Visnjic to wrap up his arrangements with Timeless, and finally, start shooting the long-anticipated project. The legendary director also stated that he came up with the idea about this movie a long time ago, over ten years ago, but he was waiting for the right time because it is a rather complex project. Namely, apart from Goran Visnjic, three more actors will play the General himself, in order to portray different periods of his life.
